KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Your rights as a worker in the UAE.

Quick reference. The UAE Labour Law — Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, as amended by Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2024 — protects you whether you're a national or expatriate.

Pay & hours

  • Maximum 8 hours/day or 48 hours/week (Art. 17). Overtime is voluntary, capped at 2 hours/day.
  • Overtime pay: +25% on regular overtime, +50% for night shifts and public holidays (Art. 19).
  • Wage Protection System (WPS): wages paid through bank or licenced exchange — on time, in full.
  • Friday rest day + paid UAE public holidays.

Leave & time off

  • Annual paid leave: 30 days/year after one year (Art. 29). Pro-rated 2 days/month before that.
  • Sick leave: up to 90 days/year — 15 days full pay, 30 days half pay, 45 days unpaid (Art. 31).
  • Maternity leave: 60 days — 45 days full pay + 15 days half pay (Art. 30).
  • Bereavement leave for immediate family loss (Art. 32).

Protection from abuse

  • Anti-discrimination by race, colour, sex, religion, national origin, social origin, or disability (Art. 4).
  • No harassment, bullying, or violence — physical, verbal, sexual, or psychological (Art. 14).
  • No retaliation for filing a complaint or a court claim against your employer (Art. 47).
  • 2024 amendment: MOHRE dispute decisions are now binding like court orders (FDL No. 9 of 2024, Art. 54).

End of service

  • End-of-service gratuity: 21 days/year for the first 5 years, 30 days/year thereafter (Art. 51).
  • Repatriation ticket at the employer's cost when your contract ends (Art. 13).
  • Notice period: 30 to 90 days, paid in lieu if you're dismissed without cause (Art. 43).
  • You keep your gratuity even if you resign — it's earned, not granted.
The employer pays. You don't. All visa, permit, medical, and recruitment costs are the employer's responsibility — never the worker's. Anyone asking you to pay a "processing fee" or "deposit" to apply is breaking the law.
Report violations to MOHRE. Toll-free in the UAE: 800 60. Online: mohre.gov.ae. Free, in your language, and (since the 2024 amendments) the rulings are binding.
FOR EMPLOYERS

Post a job. Pay AED 29. Get applicants by tomorrow.

Pay first, post second. Employers who pay before they post don't waste your time — and that's exactly the point.
